The book “Elements of Modern Physics” is an introductory text for undergraduate students of physics. The book contains six chapters and each chapter is provided with objective type questions, solved examples and exercises. The book covers the syllabus prescribed by UGC under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)
The text has been presented in a simple manner that helps student to grasp the subject matter easily. The students will find a fair amount of detail in the examples and derivation given in the text. The book deals with the historical development of quantum mechanics, de-Broglie hypothesis, Heisenberg Uncertainty relation, time dependent and time independent Schrödinger equation, application of Schrödinger equation to particle in a rigid box, potential step and barrier. Size of the nucleus, nuclear forces, binding energy, Semiempirical mass formula is described., Radioactivity law, half life and mean life, alpha, beta and gamma decay, Gamow theory of alpha decays as well as nuclear fission ,nuclear fusion and nuclear reactor is also described.
