Excerpt from Elizabethan Keswick: Extracts From the Original Account Books 1564 1577 of the German Miners in the Archives of Augsburg<br><br>It occurred to me some time ago that as the mines were financed by an Augsburg firm there might still be discoverable among the records of Augsburg enough documents to help in the identi fication of the chief actors if not fuller accounts and I applied to Dr. P. Dirr the keeper of the City Archives for any informa tion he could give. Dr. Dirr most kindly sent me a paragraph from Ehrenberg''s Das Zeitalter der F ugger which mentioned the mines and he gave some help towards elucidating the names of Duchmen which appear in grotesquely mangled forms in our Parish Registers. But he was unable at the time to do more; and I printed a short paper in the Cumberland and vvestmorland Antiquarian Society''s Transactions for 1910 in the belief that little further could be added to my analysis of the various local notices.<br><br>About the Publisher<br><br>Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
