About The Book

In-depth studies on women''s literature of the past centuries will bring Marie de Gournay back into fashion. After Christine de Pisan in the fourteenth century Louise Labé in the sixteenth it is she who will take up the torch of the feminist fight. She will denounce the humiliating condition of the woman will fight the misogynistic prejudices and will exhort the women to emancipate themselves. In the first chapter we related the historical and social causes that pushed her to revolt and we studied the personal attacks coming from prelates courtiers and writers. The second chapter is dedicated to the feminist sources that support her thesis of equality. For this she handles the texts of ancient philosophers saints and contemporary authors as she pleases. The third chapter deepens her ideas through the study of her works: rejected marriage required female education gender equality spiritual love and creative writing. This study has attempted to prove that Marie de Gournay was indeed the mother of French feminism.
