<p>Emerging pollutants and contaminants refer to chemicals that are not currently regulated but present ecological or human health concerns including but not limited to endocrine-disrupting compounds pharmaceutical and personal care products disinfection by-products microplastics persistent organic chemicals etc. as well as their degradation products being found in air water soil and food sources. This reprint details the most recent advancements that facilitate an understanding of the occurrence distribution and fate of emerging pollutants in the environment; risk assessments of emerging contaminants; as well as research exploring technology that exploits methods to reduce and control their environmental presence and adverse effects.</p>
