Eminent Victorians

Eminent Victorians is a biographical work by Lytton Strachey published in 1918. The book is a collection of four biographies of notable figures from the Victorian era: Cardinal Manning Florence Nightingale Thomas Arnold and General Gordon. Rather than presenting these individuals as flawless heroes Stracheys biographies are critical and irreverent challenging many of the assumptions and myths surrounding their lives.
