Interest in dentistry for the elderly and recognition that particular problems arise in treating the elderly has developed rapidly over the last few decades. An increasing proportion of the world’s population is made up of elderly people many of whom have considerable need for complex medical and dental care. Elderly have low expectation of oral health which needs to be changed by trained dental professionals. Treatment plan should be aimed at retaining the maximum number of natural teeth through preventive and curative procedures rather than extraction and dentures. Health care delivery should be as pain-free and comfortable for the elderly as possible.
