About The Book

This book concisely describes the ways in which today’s standard British and American English speech differ from the different Class accent of the centuries. It opens with an account of – pronunciation word stress Homophones minimal pairs of words and sentences and sounds of English. Unintelligible speech in childhood is often characterised by the use of unusual or deviant (I.E. Non-developmental) phonological processes e.g initial consonant deletion. These processes are reported to appear at speech onset and to undergo little spontaneous change during the preschool years. The study reported here documents the changes that occurred in the phonological systems of seven phonologically disorder children during remediation that targeted unusual phonological processes. A concise readable and teachable framework. It will be valuable not only to teachers but also to everyone teaching or studying linguistics and phonetics and speech and language therapy.
