When the capital of Tocantins Palmas was planned and built in the middle of the Cerrado the whole discourse was geared towards the construction of an ecological and environmentally friendly capital. Based on this premise this study sought to identify the social and environmental representations at work in the context of the formation and development of Palmas as well as how these representations were able to transform practices related to the Environment and Environmental Awareness especially through Environmental Education.
