Environmental Politics: From Sociability to Sustenance

About The Book

Environmental politics is an important issue at both the policy and praxes levels as it leads to critical concerns like political decentralization good governance political ecology legal reforms institutional re-explorations fiscal readjustments eminent domain and the overall ethics of what we tend to address as environmentalism as such. This issue has recently emerged in the context of the United Nations Development Program’s Millennium Development Goals as a problematique of Globalization/Glocalization that may be ideally negotiated in terms of locally workable strategies. Environmental management indicators can be both quantitative and qualitative in nature in order to provide primary inputs to monitor different projects evaluate progress of project implementation and guide the stakeholders to sustain the benefits of these projects. Such indicators may also evaluate the impacts of these projects on the quality of life of the stakeholders before and after implementation and also examine the increased level of community participation and awareness-generation vis-à-vis project interventions. Participatory environmental development may be defined as an interactive process during the passage of which the concerned stakeholders gain access to effective decision-making either directly or via institutionalized dynamics.
