Environmental Sustainability Food and Agriculture Productivity in Nigeria

About The Book

Environmental Sustainability Food and Agriculture Productivity in Nigeria is a book of seven chapters which shows that environmental sustainability is driven by good environmental governance. The book establishes a link between weather and climate factors on the one hand and food productivity lives and properties in Nigeria on the other using the annual weather predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency from 2011-2018. It discusses national food security in the context of food availability access utilization and stability. It shows that there are severe climate change impacts on the productivity of crops livestock poultry and fisheries; on infrastructure for example the collapse of the Makoko Floating School on the Lagos Lagoon on the displacement of people and on loss of lives and properties. The book observes that increases in hectares of agricultural land cultivated by farmers in Nigeria do not necessarily result in corresponding increases in crop yield. Other production factors matter. Data on annual food imports and customs values from 2011-2018 show that national food security is yet to be met.
