As Shetani's dark influence grows Thamani's father becomes distant and after his death in military service Thamani is left alone and imprisoned by her stepfamily.</p><p><br></p><p>The play's themes of cultural pride and resilience are embodied through Thamani's connection to her heritage represented by a magical necklace her mother gave her. This necklace a symbol of protection and ancestral strength guides her throughout the story.
