Many children with chronic disorders which were formerly lethal in childhood are now surviving into adulthood because of improvements in therapy. The disease process can affect achievement in adolescence - and the adolescent process may also affect the disease. However adolescent patients are often treated by clinicians with relatively little experience in the clinical treatment of childhood diseases. This book describes the physical and psychological changes which occur in puberty and discusses the clinical aspects of the management of disease in adolescent patients. It bridges the gap between paediatric and ''adult'' specialist medicine and focuses on the handover of care between these professional specialties.
