John Malcolm and Charles T. Metcalfe dealt with the Sikh misaldars between 1803 and 1804 A.D. Like Murray H.T. Prinsep wade under William Bentinck (1828-1835) took interest in Sikh political formations and the Khalsa traditions. J.D. Cunningham wrote his book entitled History of the Sikh in 1849. After this The Asiatic Society of Bengal took some interest in Sikh literature by 1851 but it was confined only to the writings of Guru Gobind Singh or the folklore in the region. He has his M.Phil Doctorate degrees from the Himachal Pradesh University Shimla in 1987. He is the author of a number of research papers published in various journals like the Punjab Past and Present Journal of Regional History Proceedings of Punjab History Conference Journal of Sikh History and M.D.U. Research Journal (Arts) cover a variety of themes ranging from historiography philology and education to socio-religious reformation including the questions of control over Golden Temple and conception of Punjabi Suba. Already he has two books to his credit. Presently he is engaged in exploring the origin and growth of the Sikh Studies covering the period of Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1793-1839) and the Colonial Punjab from 1849 to 1923 A.D.
