<p>Having long accepted the common opinion that only two American</p><p>women aphorists were worth reprinting (Mae West and Dorothy Parker)</p><p>I was surprised to discover the aphorisms of Minna Antrim and so</p><p>reprinted three of her books into a single volume. That discovery led me</p><p>in turn to inquire about others. An enthusiast for aphorism recommended</p><p>Mignon McLaughlin (1913-1983) a later writer whose collections I'd</p><p>reprint were they not already protected by copyright. Looking back I</p><p>discovered Edith Watts Mumford (1876-1940) who wrote some masterpieces.</p>
