About The Book

In India the tribals constitute a population of 8 per cent to the Total population and lives on 1/5 part (19 pert) of the country and having more 500 different groups. They speak over 150 languages and about 225 subsidiary language. Every tribal group or race have their own identity and rich cultural heritage. During the Fifth Five Year Plan the Govt. of India adopted the Primitive Tribal Development concept and fixed a criteria to declare S.T. in the list of Primitive Tribal Group. Till today in 14 states 74 tribal groups have been declared Primitive Tribal Group. Keeping in view the importance of Ethnography of Primitive Tribal Groups we have decided to work on the selected Primitive Tribal Groups. In this book Chapter-1 is Introductory. In first chapter we have tried to explore all the essential information regarding every tribal group of the Country along with the population and special features. In other chapters the Ethnography of all the selected 17 P.T.G. have been discussed in detail Viz. Assur Baiga Bhariya Brijia Birhor Bondo Chenchu Cholanikan Didayi Dongria Khond Juangas Kamar Kathodi; Korga; Lodha Pahari (Hill) Korwa Sahariya and Shompens.
