This book project was a study of Kenya government housing policies and strategies for housing the urban poor in Kenya a case of Kisumu city. A study by the UN habitat in Kisumu in the year 2005 on situational analysis of informal settlement indicate that Kisumu city is the third largest urban centre in Kenya with an area of 417 sq km and a population estimated at 500000. According to the report pockets of slum like settlements are developing gradually due to shortage of affordable housing. The purpose of this study was therefore to evaluate government housing policies and strategies for housing the urban poor in Kenya a case of Kisumu city. The objectives of the study were to examine the effectiveness of Housing policies and their implementation strategies in the provision of low-cost housing to the urban poor in Kisumu City to establish the constraints in the housing policy towards the provision of low-cost housing to evaluate the strategies that have been applied in the provision of low-cost Housing to the urban poor in Kisumu City.
