Evaluation of Incidental Maxillofacial Pathologies on CBCT

A careful and thorough interpretation of the CBCT images beyond the region of interest is necessary to avoid overlooking occult pathology. This study confirms the frequent presence of incidental findings in maxillofacial CBCT scans. This finding underscores the need for dental practitioners and oral and maxillofacial radiologists to review the entire volume of the CBCT study to document the presence of clinically significant lesions (outside the primary region of interest) that may require intervention monitoring or a referral to other specialists.
