Evaluation of Neuropharmacological Potential of Ceriscoides turgida

About The Book

Recently different researches on medicinal plants have grabbed attention worldwide in the field of neurosciences as medicinal plants are considered the safer source of drugs. Keep this in mind our current study was designed to find out neuropharmacological principles from methanol extracts of leaves and root of Ceriscoides turgida. Traditionally C. turgida is used to treat leucorrhoea dog bite scorpion string epilepsy stone stomachache snake bite etc. The CNS depressant activity was examined by observing the reduction of locomotors and exploratory activities in the thiopental sodium induced sleeping time hole cross hole board and open field tests in mice at the doses of 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg b.w. In the present experiment diazepam at 1 mg/kg bw was used as reference. All results were found statistically significant (p<0.05). We found that methanol extract of C. turgida significantly decreased the induction time to sleep and prolonged the duration of sleeping induced by thiopental sodium. Besides the spontaneous motor activity was decreased by all natural products in both hole cross and open field test.
