Evaluation of Productive Safety Net Program Intervention In Ethiopia

About The Book

Since 2005 Ethiopia has been implementing the Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP) one of the largest social safety nets in Africa. PSNP aimed at enabling the rural poor facing chronic food insecurity to resist shocks create assets and become food self-sufficient. However there is limited empirical evidence about the targeting process of PSNP beneficiaries PSNP’s integration with other food security programs and PSNP’s contribution to rural infrastructure development. This book addresses these issues based on a case study undertaken in Northeastern Amhara region in the country. More specifically the study was undertaken in Wag-Himra zone which is known for its chronic food insecurity and the PSNP has been operational in the area from the very beginning. The study provides some fresh insights of a development practitioner who has been working with the community in the case study site. The book is valuable for both development practitioners and researchers working in social safety nets as it presents grassroot level perspectives. It can also benefit decision makers to take lessons on strategic and operational issues in executing social programs.
