Most of us have heard the story of Adam and Eve. As it is usually taught Eve was deceived and through her wiles brought down the whole human race. But is that what really happened? Was Adam the innocent victim of Eve s seductive influence? Was she Adam s weak link? The Genesis drama as interpreted overwhelmingly by men has been used to justify suppressing women for thousands of years. Only recently have women been given the opportunity to interpret Scripture from their own unique perspective. That includes re-examining the bane of women s existence: Eve and the events in Eden. Does this drama teach that all women are weak-willed and prone to deception? Does this teach that women are innately untrustworthy with handling Scripture?
