Fabrication of aluminium alloy base surface composite using friction

About The Book

Friction stir processing (FSP) consists of a tool with unique probe and shoulder geometry which plunge into the prepared substrate and driven in a direction to engineer the substrate microstructure catering to various property requirements. When the rotating tool is inserted in the substrate it plasticizes the material coming in contact. Simultaneously the tool shoulder provides forging action to confine ejecting out of stirring material. FSP tool drives plastically deformed material from one side to another side however nature and amount of material flow depend on the tool geometry and processing conditions. The present research employed a configuration into the FSP of AA8090 to obtain high quality surface composites.
