Pancytopenia is one of the most frequent reasons for requesting a myelogram. It is a complication with a broad etiological spectrum often dominated by bone marrow aplasia. A myelogram remains indispensable in the etiological diagnostic process. The aim of this study was to identify the factors associated with the occurrence of pancytopenia. A case-control study was carried out over a 17-month period from March 2022 to July 2023. We obtained 70 cases for 140 controls. This study identified 13 risk factors associated with the occurrence of pancytopenia including hepatitis C virus infection and/or the use of decoctions and provided suggestions for reducing the frequency of this complication.
