Farming into the Twilight: Dilemma of Ageing Farmers

The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences challenges and insights of ageing farmers in Yokote City Akita Prefecture Japan. This study was primarily directed to explore the central research questions namely: (1) What are the experiences difficulties challenges and insights of ageing farmers in Yokotte City? (2) How are they coping with the challenges and difficulties affecting their farming practices efficiency and yield? This study is also aimed at validating the hypothesis that farming at an old age requires more courage strength time and adaptability and that various challenges and difficulties arise such as gaps between the farmers of old age and the “supposed to be next generation of farmers”-the successors.
