Description
Author
Multiferroic is a novel multifunctional material and possesses magneticspin electric dipole and ferroelastic ordering. Ferroelectricity and magnetism exists in same phase and have spurred the interest of scientist due to potentialapplications in memory storage transducers spintronics magnetic sensor and ferromagneticresonance devices BiFeO3 (BFO) is a smart ceramic material which possesses multiferroic properties. It shows ferroelectricity with high Curie temperature (TC = 830 °C) and G-type antiferromagnetic order below Néel temperature TN = 370 °C with a long-range cycloidal spin arrangement of wavelength 62 nm incommensurate with the lattice. Although these properties are favorable for device making the applications of BFO have been limited due to several inherent drawbacks such as formation of secondary phase during synthesis weak magnetic characteristics weak magnetoelectric coupling high leakage current etc. Lately researchers have devised new methods to improve the properties of the material and one such method is to substitute one of the sites of BFO by some other element.
