Febrile diarrhea in Kolwezi town

About The Book

Febrile enteritis is one of the main causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide particularly in developing countries. The incidence of diarrhoeal diseases occurs throughout the year with a high peak in the rainy season. The prevalence of astro-viruses in the world varies from 2 to 16% (Hamkar et al 2010) and the parasitic prevalence remains high in most poor countries. In January 2016 to January 2018 we conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study in the city of Kolwezi at HGR MWANGEJI to define the prevalence and management of gastroenteritis and identify risk factors to prevent this health problem in Kolwezi. During this study we identified a prevalence of 123 cases of febrile enteritis. The male sex 70 cases is more represented than the female sex. The Kamanyola district is the largest provider of cases of febrile enteritis with 32.52%. The fact that a child is born prematurely and the low birth weight (2500 grams) has been recognized as a risk factor for diarrhoea-related mortality.
