February 2014 flood victims

Since the socio-political crisis of October 1993 the phenomenon of population displacement has become a shocking reality in Burundi. Indeed the living conditions of displaced populations have been so precarious that both national and international actors have felt called upon to provide assistance and mobilize their multifaceted aid. This study focuses on the phenomenon of displacement which is already well known in Burundi in terms of its manifestations and its consequences for the populations concerned but which has somewhat unusual reasons. It aims to : 1. Describe the victims of this flood and the conditions in which the displaced populations were placed; 2. Report on the displaced populations'' strategies for adapting to this new situation; 3. Identify the donors and the nature of the aid provided to the victims; 4. Gather the views of aid recipients on how aid is granted and managed.
