About The Book

Federalism means a principle of government that defines the relationship between the central government at the national level and its constituent units at the regional state or local levels. Under this principle of government power and authority is allocated between the national and local government units such that each unit is delegated a sphere of power and authority only it can exercise while other powers must be shared. The formation of the Indian federation has been a long process. Some kind of loose federation existed throughout her history; however India was not completely integrated as a sovereign nation even under Asoka Samudragupta or Akbar. It was the British who unified India and established their dominion from the Indus in the West to the Brahmaputra in the East from the Himalayas in the North to the Kannyakumari in the South over the whole of the traditional territories of Bharatvarsha.
