Feeding of Wild Birds on City Waste

The Book “Feeding of Wild Birds on City Waste” examines the feeding dependency of wild city birds’ on organic solid waste dumps in the cities. This is one of the most popular forms of human–wildlife interactions in the world. The extensive bird-habitat destruction for urban development has restricted wild-bird feeding to city waste-dumps in most cities in the world. The feeding on available food fragments on waste-dumps has long been a relief strategies in the population increase of wild-city birds. However Food subsidies derived from rubbish dumps also have negative attributes. The anthropogenic organic items like glasses metals wire plastic paints and different toxics destructive to the digestive system of birds are found in the these dumps. Additionally dangerous pathogens which can alter individuals'' health are also vectored and cycled into the human society by some of the birds. Unfortunately the poor management of dumpsites is a common practice in most areas in the developing world where there is little or no segregation of waste materials on dumpsites hence windblown plastics and papers from dumpsites to human residential buildings is common.
