Her female protagonists of her novels are immigrants and suffer cultural shock but they are potential women and are anxious to establish their individuality by undertaking their heroic journeys. That is why Bharati Mukherjee has consented substantial critical attention from almost all the quarters of the world in a moderately short era of just twenty five years.
