This four-volume set begins in 1397 a necessaryprelude to the rise of Henry IV and carries through to 1509 and thedeath of Henry VII. Volume II covers from 1423and the beginning of the reign of Henry VI through to 1449 as the Englishlose most of their French empire. In the process it covers most of the last yearsof the final phase of the Hundred Years War as the English struggle to holdon to their French conquests and lays some of the groundwork for start of theWars of the Roses. It covers land and naval battles parliaments and great councilmeetings and the lives and deaths of many hundreds of prominent EnglishWelsh Scottish Irish French Burgundian and Breton persons.
