About The Book

The study of this book aims to analyze the gradual change in the representation of the black man''s image in Hollywood cinema and its relationship with the transformations suffered by society throughout history. By observing the viewpoint of the co-constitution of ideas with the social structure as proposed by Wendt''s constructivist theory of International Relations we can see how the ideas put forward by the directors and producers of the works analyzed are those corresponding to the society in which they were inserted. This hypothesis becomes true to the extent that the authors go through films from different times acclaimed by the critics and that address the situation of the black in society in each temporal context.
