Chalan Beel is a wet land in Bangladesh. It is a large inland depression marshy in character with rich flora and fauna. Forty seven rivers and other waterways flow into the Chalan Beel. As silt builds up in the Beel its size is being reduced. Sixteen physicochemical parameters were found Chalan Beel. Beel water is permanently alkaline in nature. Chalan Beel concluded an excellent place for natural conservation of fish species. Most of fishing methods of the Chalan Beel are primitive based on indigenous traditional knowledge and well suited to turbulent nature of the stream. Thirty fishing methods and gears have been documented and classified into five categories fishing nets traps wounding gears hooks and lines and others. Many of these are harmful to fishes as well as aquatic biodiversity. Fish farmers are found to face various problems such as social economical and technical problems which are identified in that area. The book have been written for those people who are interested to know the fishing implements methods or technique in Bangladesh not only Bangladesh including Indian sub-continents (because more or less Indian-sub continent use same practice for fishing).
