About The Book

The application of supercritical carbon dioxide hasbeen attracting more attention in the synthesis ofbiodegradable polymers. Highly pure products withoutresidues can be recovered after the polymerization insupercritical carbon dioxide. In this book thesynthesis steps of polyester-based biodegradablepolymers and the production of nanofiber scoffoldsfrom these polymers are reported in details. For the synthesis of polyester-based biodegradablepolymers three types of block fluorinatedpoly(L-lactide-co-?-caprolactone) are synthesized insupercritical carbon dioxide using reactivestabilizers including inner fluorinated segment andpolylactide or polycaprolactone side chains.Perfluoro polyethers can be used as blood substitutesto deliver oxygen to tissues so that these materialsare promising for biomedical applications. For the production of nanofiber scoffoldselectrospinning process is used to fabricatenanofiber scaffolds from synthesized biodegradablematerials. Material characterization is carried out by nuclearmagnetic resonance spectroscopy differential scanning calorimetry gel permeationchromatographyoptical microscopy and scanningelectron microscopy.
