Folktale Inquiries : A Study of Selected Folktales of Himachal Pradesh

Folktale Inquiries aims to explore and understand the narrative structure of Himachali folktales at large. The idea is to identify the folk elements like motifs themes and patterns embedded in the hill-life through the study of selected folktales of Himachal Pradesh. Keeping this in mind the book makes an investigative attempt to decode the Himachali folklore through a literary perspective. This short piece of academic writing gives an insight into the formulation of folktales as a carrier of ideas such as ‘ethnicity’ ‘identity’ ‘culture’ ‘tradition’ ‘beliefs’ and ‘rituals’ giving a literary interpretation of every folktale under study.
