This book is a collection of folktales that have been told and retold from time immemorial. Each tribe has its folktales and beliefs. Though folktales vary from tribe to tribe there are also certain similarities. A narration of folktales differs from person to person. The differences are mostly one of addition or exaggeration to make the stories more attractive to the listeners and to capture their attention.

Having heard these stories from elders we realized how precious these folktales are. With the passing away of our elders many of these tales may be lost forever. We have attempted to gather these folktales to preserve and to hand over to posterity these priceless gifts of God.

In the beginning we deal with those tales that'speak of the origin of the Pochury tribe particularly Meluri village. Here we read of the courage and valor of young men who went out for war ready to lay down their lives for their people. Some interesting stories talk about taking up challenges others speak about making friends with animals and with evil spirits which make us sit up and think critically.

Towards the end you will find the mention of certain traditions and practices. Offering to the spirits during Jhum cultivation to the wizard for the healing of sick people is also find mention in some of the stories. There are some moral lessons to be learned from these narratives.
