FOLLOW ME ON THIS: I am a Black woman poet; the declaration/clarification is necessary.But where and who I am now is not where I started 10 years ago. Locations loves lessons-everything changed. In the last decade the song of how this Black woman held it down and held on became a battle-cry instead of a lullaby. Those years these poems chased/birthed/illuminated changes I wasnt always ready for. But I knew this was true journey so I breathed deep bound my wounds and kept moving. (And in the words of my poem FLOW looked damn good while I was doing it. Just sayin). FOLLOW ME ON THIS is a Black woman poet at cross-roads. Singing. LOUD. Wit/ loss/ magic/ truth/ homage. Necessary information. Those 10 years re-built me branded me (almost) broke me. Im celebrating/documenting that decade. Maybe youll hear your own voice here. Maybe not. But take the journey.
