On The 20Th Of November 1943 The Southern Taskforce (Tf 53) Under The Command Of Rear Admiral Harry Hill Set A Course Forthe Tarawa Atoll In The Gilbert Islands Of The Centralpacific. In His Command Were Over 17000 Men Of The 2Nd Marinedivision. Their Main Goal Was The Tiny Island Of Betioroughly 2 X 1/2 Miles Insize.Facing A Force Of 5000 Heavilyfortified Japanese Soldiers The Marines Battled For Four Days Under Heavyenemy Fire And By The End Of The Battle The Course Of Events In The Pacificwould Be Changed Forever.
