About The Book

For the Sake of the School by Angela Brazil is a captivating narrative set in the picturesque surroundings of The Woodlands a school nestled in the Craigwen Valley. The story follows Ulyth Stanton a student in the Lower Fifth who is eagerly anticipating the arrival of Rona Mitchell a girl from New Zealand with whom she has been corresponding for two years. Ulyth's romanticized expectations of Rona are shattered when she meets her and finds her to be quite different from the idealized image she had formed. Rona having grown up in the backwoods of New Zealand lacks the refinement and social graces that Ulyth values. Despite her initial disappointment Ulyth is reminded of her responsibilities as a Torch-bearer in the Camp-fire League a group dedicated to service and personal growth. Encouraged by her mentor Mrs. Arnold Ulyth decides to embrace the challenge of helping Rona adapt to her new environment. The narrative explores themes of friendship cultural differences and personal development as Ulyth learns to look beyond her prejudices and Rona begins to find her place at The Woodlands. The story is a testament to the power of understanding and the importance of supporting one another in a community.
