FORM AND CONTENT OF AFRICAN MUSIC

Technological products growth of urban centresemergence of industries and the widespread of deadlydiseases such as HIV/AIDS have led to remarkableadjustments in the social behaviour and other ways oflife in African communities. These adjustments havestrained socio-cultural patterns of Africantraditional ceremonies leading to a shift in theform content significance and performance of musicin such ceremonies. This work investigates the formand content of African music as exemplified by Bukusucircumcision music in Kenya. The dilemma and problemin the Bukusu community focuses on striking a balancebetween the traditional and modern perspectives inthe organization and performance of the music.
