Fowzia's Garden

Fowzia Younos was born in Kabul City on August 61955 and was raised into a musician family. She is thegrand daughter of Ustad Qassem the great composer ofAfghanistan and the daughter of Ustad Yusuf and KarimaQassemi. Fowzia graduated from Lycee Aisha Durani ofKabul and served in the Ministry of Education. In 1975 shemarried Farid Younos who was a student of ethnography andcultural anthropology. Fowzia continued her education atthe university of Aarhus University in Denmark. She was forced to leave Afghanistan uponthe Soviet invasion with her husband in 1979.Later in the United States she studied in the field of Business Education and graduatedwith Master of Science in Education from Virginia Tech in 1986; being the first Afghanwoman who completed a Master degree after mass migration upon the Soviet invasion ofAfghanistan. Fowzia taught for 30 years in different junior colleges including twenty years atHeald Business College and served as an administrator in Contra Costa County Californiaand retired as a Medical Staff Coordinator until her retirement at the age of 70.
