Gingivitis can be defined as a disease that is characterized by inflammation of gingival tissue which progreses to periodontitis and gradually to tooth loss. Periodontal diseases reflect interplay among a pathogenic bacterial biofilm that is present on the root surface periodontal pocket host-derived inflammatory cells.Gingivitis which is the mildest form of periodontal disease is an inflammatory condition caused by a bacterial biofilm (dental plaque) thataccumulates on teeth surface adjacent to the gingiva (gums). Gingivitis does not act the underlying supporting structure of the teeth and is reversible if not treated properly it can progress to periodontitis which is a complex disease that involves the loss of attachment around teeth resulting from action of microorganisms and the response of the host to these organisms which is said to be major cause of tooth loss and destruction of supporting tissues in adults.
