Opening with the situation of the state the author describes New Hampshire's climate and seasons canals and turnpikes monuments vegetable production and agriculture domestic and wild animals government military strength religion customs institutions companies societies and state prison. Division of the state is also covered in this section giving general information on each township. Part II begins on page 219 which offers tables with the course and distance on a direct line from Portsmouth Concord Boston and Portland as well as a table of the town in each county of New Hampshire with the number of polls proportion of taxes in 1775 and 1812 number of horses over four years old number of meat cattle over two years old number of acres of orchard and the number of sheep both arranged alphabetically. This source of helpful geographic information provides locations of villages streams and other features which may have disappeared or been renamed and it is also just plain fascinating reading. This work concludes with an index to full-names and places.</p><p></p><p></p>
