About The Book

This book discusses a proposed integrated model for a community based intervention to decrease the burden of low vision and blindness in endemic developing countries from a gender-based perspective. The theory behind such model is to combine community health education with screening techniques that is followed by detection and referral of eligible cases to receive eye care. The model also adopts two crucial components those are: capacity building of local eye care providers and breaking down barriers. The proposed model is mainly built on the concept of participatory developmental approach in which the target community as well as policy makers and local health authorities in addition to the grassroots are deeply involved in all of the model developing stages from planning to implementation and including monitoring and evaluation aspects. This model can be considered as a step on the road which can be either adopted or adapted localized and updated with full subjectivity to adding / removing or modifying of its original components.
