About The Book

Genetically modified organisms have proved to be fruitful for countries like US Argentina Brazil. GMOs have evolved through the genetic engineering in which the genetic material (DNA) is combined in such a unique way which couldn`t have been possible through natural mating process. GMOs are proving to be a topic of conflict as well as prosperity because of the benefits&risks associated with it. A Plant or animal consisting of one or more transgenic is termed as genetically modified organisms. Genetic engineering has created new varieties of food crops such as pest–resistant corn BT cotton as well as animals with improved nutritional value. Large-scale agricultural crops are so far the most common GMO organisms in use such as maize soy rapeseed (canola) cotton and wheat. In our country BT cotton was introduced in year 2002 but the states in which it was introduced denied its fair performance and asked the Genetic engineering approval committee to recall the seed. WTO was firstly involved in the affairs related to GMOs when there was a conflict between the EU and US and a case was filed which is known as the EC- biotech case.
