German in the World

<p class=ql-align-justify><span style=color: rgba(0 0 0 1); background-color: rgba(0 0 0 0)>The exhibition 'German in the World' accompanies the 2025 Association for German Studies conference at the University of Oxford. Both build on the founding principles of the Taylor Institution Library the Modern Languages Library at Oxford: to chart the development of 'Nationalliteratur' in the context of 'Weltliteratur' to look at how global perspectives have shaped German literature and to make visible how in turn German-language poetry pamphlets and philosophy has spread across the globe.  </span></p><p class=ql-align-justify></p><p class=ql-align-justify><span style=color: rgba(0 0 0 1); background-color: rgba(0 0 0 0)>The volume combines contributions to different parts of the conference programme. It opens with a history of teaching and researching German abroad seen through the formation of the collections of the Taylor Institution Library in the 19th century. a new translation of a ground-breaking text by Natasha A.
