Barrett</strong> a writer and historian. The book offers a <strong>personal insight</strong> into Geronimo's life his experiences as a leader and the culture of the Apache people during a time of immense upheaval.</p><p>Geronimo was a prominent leader of the <strong>Chihenne band</strong> of the <strong>Bedonkohe Apache</strong> who fought fiercely against both Mexican and American forces during the Apache Wars which spanned much of the <strong>19th century</strong>. His autobiography dictated to <strong>Barrett</strong> in 1905 and later published reveals the complex narrative of his life and the <strong>forced displacement of Native American tribes</strong> by European settlers and the U.S. government.</p><p>The autobiography was written at a time when Geronimo was a <strong>prisoner of war</strong> having been captured and exiled to Florida after his final surrender to the U.S. Army in 1886.
