Gilberto Freyre and the São Paulo School of Sociology

The author makes a comparative analysis of classic trends in the historiography of Brazilian slavery: Gilberto Freyre and the Paulista School of Sociology. The discussion set out in the book aims to show how these trends approached slavery in Brazil. In this sense themes dear to slavery studies are discussed such as the master-slave relationship and the role of captives in the formation of Brazil. The analysis contained in the book seeks to highlight the limits and possibilities of each trend with the aim of showing that revisiting the classics is a prolific operation for the production of historical knowledge.
