Despite a frustrated ecclesiastical career Giraldus Cambrensis (Gerald of Wales c.1146-1220/23) composed many literary works including in volume 8 this moral treatise criticising the Angevin court. Giving a vivid picture of contemporary politics the Latin text with an editorial preface in English was published in the Rolls Series in 1891.
