Glauconite in stratigraphic framework of Palaeogene of Kutch India

About The Book

The Palaeogene of western Kutch represents a mixed carbonate siliciclastic succession consisting of five formations namely Matanomadh Naredi Harudi Fulra Limestone and Maniyara Fort. Although the biostratigraphy of the Palaeogene Kutch is well documented sedimentological accounts are poor. This study is made to assess formation and maturation of glauconites within the stratigraphic framework of the Palaeogene of Kutch. A thorough facies analysis conducted on the constituent formations reveals dominance of lagoonal sedimentation except for the Fulra Limestone. Three sequences are identified within the Palaeogene of Kutch each separated by regional-scale unconformities. Systems tracts and maximum flooding surfaces are identified within the sequences based on integrated facies and micropalaeontological investigations. Study of glauconites occurring in Naredi Harudi and the Maniyara Fort Formation involves understanding origin of glauconites in bioclasts fecal pellets and feldspar substrates assessment of substrate characteristics on glauconite formation and maturation and their sequence stratigraphic implications.
