About the Author Daphne Jackson worked as a secretary in Java until her marriage to Charles (Jack). Their happy life together was beset by difficulties but both came through the war and its aftermath with courage. Later in London she was involved in voluntary work and loved writing especially plays; she said doing this in her head had kept her alive while imprisoned.
